Amsterdam Nightlife
Welcome to my website about my favorite city in the world: Amsterdam! I wanted to build a website that can supply detailed information about all the great experiences you can have when it comes to the nightlife in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is the biggest city and the capitol of the Netherlands. De city, also called Mokum by people of Amsterdam, is situated in the state “North Holland” at the end of rivers “Amstel” and “Ij”.
Amsterdam is not just the capitol of the Netherlands, it is also the cultural capitol of Holland. It has the most museums (Rijks museum, van Gogh museum), de biggest orchestra (Royal orchestra), theater and opera, and the most music buildings, art galleries and cinemas. Also the city offers the most educational opportunities with two universities and has the most stores and shopping malls in the Netherlands.
On May the 31th 2009, Amsterdam had a population of 763,194. The most since 1976. Counting all the suburban area’s of Amsterdam, the total population is well above 2 million.
Amsterdam by night is where I love to be. Here people are very liberal and open minded and very welcome to tourist. Very popular are the 2 squares that are both surrounded but nightlife facilities like bars, clubs restaurants and hang out’s. The great thing about this city is also that there is something for everybody from every walk of life. Everything you want from really posh high-end clubs with guest list to small brown local pubs to sport bars, to quit café’s. Of course you can also find many family attractions all around the city but that’s not my focus with this website. I’m about the party!
So the 2 squares are called “Rembrandt square” and “Leidseplein”. At Leidseplein you will foind more bars and pubs. There is a good comedy club there and you are very close to the Holland casino. Very nearby you will also find “Melkweg” and “Paradiso” which are both big venue’s where the have live music mixed with dance party’s.
At Rembrandt square you will encounter more the clubs nightlife scene with many different types of nightclubs in a small radius area. Depending on the day and the club you will almost never pay more than 15 euro’s to get in any of them. Only on special occasions they could charge a higher entrance fee. A few of my favorites are Studio 80, The Coconuts bar and De Kroon, but the most popular clubs in Amsterdam have to be Escape(Rembrandt square) and Jimmy Woo(Leidseplein).
Of course you also have the world famous coffee shops of Amsterdam. This is not like Starbucks. Even though most of them do sell coffee and other drinks there main source of income is selling (legal) weed. Many tourists from around the world travel far and wide to come visit some of our best coffee shops. And in my personal opinion. Dutch weed is the best weed that is generally available in Europe and America(I haven’t been anywhere else). On the contrary from what most people think, dutch people aren’t big smokers at all. Most people smoke very little to nothing. Or at special occasions and party’s. The main income for these coffee shops come from tourists. And I personally think it’s great.
Where also have the very famous RLD or “red light district” in Amsterdam. In dutch we also call it “the wallen”. This is an area roughly between the central station and the big Dam Square. The weird thing is that you can walk around in downtown Amsterdam, see everything there is to see without stubbeling across the red lights. It is just behind area of tall buildings and slightly of course to all the main shopping area’s. Still it is not hard to find if you know which way to go.
The Amsterdam red light district is a network of streets between some canals which almost look like a small city. Except rows and rows of red lit windows you also find (erotic)shops and cafés and fast food restaurant there. The girls on the main area’s are very beautiful and attract a lot of attention. You can also visit strip bars and peep show boots. I love it when I bring foreigners to this area. Even if you are not interested in prostitution this is still a site that needs to be seen. You won’t find anything like this anywhere else. So this was a quick summary/guide of the Amsterdam night life as I know it. I will go more in dept on all these night life wonders on the other pages on my website.
Feel free to browse around and if you have any questions about the Amsterdam nightlife or Amsterdam in general go to the contact page and send me an email. I will do my best to reply to all your questions as soon as possible.
